what oil do i put in a m5e39 2000wreg will mobil 1 0/40 do

depends on the build date. if it is 3/00 or earlier you need the 10/60 oil. Otherwise consult the owner's manual. It will tell you what you can use.

Not your regular old xW30. Mobil1 5W30 or 10W30 need not apply...

Look for stuff that says LL-01 on the back of the bottle.
Castrol Syntec 0W30 or Mobil1 0W40 for instance. BTW, the Castrol stuff is better.

Motul or Redline 5W40 would also be good choices.

Or at least look for a ACEA A3/B3 rating...

And if you want more protection use the Castrol TWS 10W60 that BMW rec'ds the rest of the world uses.

Or find a place to get Liqui-Moly 10W60..

Or mix a 10W60 with another synthetic....

opps, I used mobil-1 full syn 5-30, and I used MANN oil filter.
It took 7qts instead of 8qts. :dunno:

Take my advice plz :)
I used Castrol RS 10W60 FOR my M5 2 years before I sell the car ..
Castrol RS = TWS (RS) IN GULF MIDLLE EAST.
I change it every 10k kilometer because the weather in kuwait is very hot it is to go 51 c
(HELL)
some of my friends put another oil because they told me its very expensive ,
I told him you have M5 ,, they told me no problem all oils
and know they cry the engine damage ,,
one of them buy used engine about 10,000 $ ,,,,
dont try another oil (castrol or mobil 10w60) castrol is best for me ,,
and you should check the guage for oil is not over the mark (not over max or under min)
and dont afraid about the engine when the it told you check engine oil level add one litre of oil ,,, all M5 less some oil when you race or very long street ,,,
