I want to refinish the wheels on my M3 and really like the "Dark Chrome" finish on the E39 M5 OEM wheels. Does anyone know whether this is powder coat or paint?. If so any ideas on where to get a similar color. I refinished my snow rims with the Wurth silver & it came out perfect. Just wanted the darker color for my summer rims.

I thought the M wheels were "polished aluminum". Is there another option? :dunno:
I think polished aluminum looks the best.
I would look to trade your wheels out. Converting painted wheels to polished will be expensive.

The E39 M5 and E46 M3 rims are painted "Shadow Chrome". It goes over a black base coat. Very dificult for places to match one rim if you damage it so a number of people redo all 4 to the same color.
