The last stripe on my '99 ///M badge has turned into a nice, flowery pink color. I have a replacement badge on the way. Typically, badge removal involves some dental floss, Goo Gone, and patience. Is there any difference with the ///M? Any rivets, or anything like that?

I'm pretty sure it's just trim tape, considering all the M318s
and M328s I've seen running around!

I wouldn't use GooGone on my paint.
After flossing off the 3er's badge, I just used my thumb and
a little lighter fluid, (naptha), to remove the tape left behind.

Of course - you gotta rewax afterward.

One of the guys over at e46fanatics used GoofOff or GooGone,
(don't remember which it was), and ended up with a nice dull
spot in the paint. (Of course, he might have used a Brillo pad too.)
:yikes:

I've used lighter fluid for years to get off pinstriping and trim tape
and haven't had a probelm yet.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I've used Goo Gone before on my old car without any problems. Either way, I'm not trying to debadge the car (yet). Maybe I'll try with some Zippo fluid.

Just hook up a hair dryer and blow on the left over tape. Once warmed up sufficiently it should roll right off of your fingers.

Yes, another possibility. The last time I did this I wasn't near an electrical outlet.

Everyone is replacing the ///M's when the red slash goes pink. A much easier and permanent solution is to go get yourself some 3M RED (of course) vinyl tape and an "X-acto" knife. With a little trial and error, you can duplicate the red slash on each of the ///M-blems! I did this a couple years ago on my "///M coupe" and NO fade whatsoever.

Justa thought ... (It worked for me!)

But it's not genuine M red that way... :tsk:

Thanks for the suggestion, but I really do want just the badge. It's sitting on my kitchen table, just waiting for me to get off my butt. :)

I've NEVER been told "Hey ... that's not BMW red!" You gotta get less than a foot away of the "///M-blem" before you can tell that they're 3M vinyl tape. Nice thing, too, is they won't fade again in 6 months!

Actually, I've only ever seen faded ///Ms on later E36 M3s. Almost all '95 M3s I've seen have not faded at all, for example. There must've been something about the dye they used during those years, or perhaps just during '99. :dunno:

Pretty much all the '98-'00 M Roadsters and Coupes fade with Sun exposure, I'll start looking at '01-'02s (the S54s actually have different emblems with a curvature to them as opposed to the S52s where the emblem is flat).
