I've owned a slew of Acuras, Fords, Jeeps and Chevys, but never a BMW. I've always loved the 740iL and this one is finally in my price range.
It's a 2000 with 82k miles. Drove great and all the electronics seemed to be in working order. Body looked great and it has 20" wheels/tires (BMW wheels, not aftermarket).
However, it was missing the phone but from what I understand they don't work anymore or they can't be used? I have a new motorola razr, is there a way to integrate it into the system?
Also, the OBD woodgrain panel/button was off and in one of the compartments - is that a big deal? What is that for anyway? And the navigation DVD was broken in the trunk (it was sticking out and looked like someone closed the door on it). Is it possible to order a new/udated nav DVD? Any chance you can use the DVD player/monitor to play normal DVD movies? :)
I looked at some of the things I found here on tips like the dimming issues and that seemed fine, the stereo didn't sound too great so I'm thinking maybe some speakers are blown or it needs tuning. There were no rattles and all the electric stuff seemed to work great.
I did notice quite a bit of wind noise on the highway, kind of like my Acura RL. Is that pretty common?
Anything else I should look for? Should I have a mechanic look at it at BMW? There isn't a BMW warranty on the car anymore but this dealer (small dealer, non bmw) will do a 150,000 mile (or 5 year) powertrain/motor/waterpump type warranty.
Thanks for any tips, pointers, links or advice you can provide a newbie, potential BMW owner.
