well i recently purchased a 1996 328is with 135k miles on it and i think i got a decent price for it, i am absolutly in love with the car but i want to get it to like-new condition, its pretty good right now with a few exceptions
i have 3 different light problems on my dash/controls and ill explain each seperately and id like to know if they can be easliy fixed by just replacing a lightbulb or something like that
1. the odometer doesnt light up at all, the lcd is good because i can (barely) make out the milage with my lights on when its dark out, i believe the speedo gauge lights it enough to see. the oil service thing right below the odometer i can see and it lights up good but the odometer itself along with the trip odometer doesnt lgith up enough to see.
2. the right side controls of my radio (i have a harman kardon premium system in there i beleive) dont light up, the radio screen lights up good but i cant see the controls on the right side of the radio in the dark
3. the lcd for the clock on the computer isnt lit up either, it works because in the right light i can see the time but its not lit up at all, the main screen that displays avg speed etc. lights up fine but the clock to the right of it doesnt light up
finally the check engine light is on, the previos owner assured me that it was nothing more than the o2 sensors needing to be replacedand i just want to clarify what iv found out about o2 sensors: there are 2 of them, one infront of and one behind the cat. both should be replaced at 100,000 or so miles, correct me if im wrong
and one more thing, what kind of oil do you recomend , iv checked the service records i recieved with the car and found 3 different wieghts of oil used 5w30, 10w50 and one other, some were listed as synthetic but the owner told me most times he had regular oil in there. so what do you recomend? synthetic, blend, mineral, 5w30? and would you change weeghts for the winter/summer months
i did searches on the lights and o2 sensor but i wanted the lighting clarified and i figured id just ask about the last 2 parts right now, thanks alot
