Reference the following quote from the BMWtips site.

Update -- 7/28/02
According to BMWNation.com, 2003-model 5-series cars will feature "pre-wiring for auxiliary input standard on all radio systems." Presumably, this will allow easier integration with the planned Sirius satellite radio option, but I still haven't seen any specific news on that front. Assuming this is an RCA stereo connection jack, integration with after-market audio systems (including XM tuners) should be far easier, allowing you to bypass a special adapter (like the Blitzsafe one I use) and a digital-to-analog converter.

I have a 2003 530 with a build date of 10/02; does anyone know where the aux input is? Is it on the back of the MID? Is it by the CD changer in the trunk? Should I look for exposed RCA plugs in those two areas or do I need the adapter from BMW like I read you need for the E60?

TIA
Craig

There is no factory provided aux audio input jack in our cars. You need to purchase and install the BMW unit. Contact BMW for the part # and price.

Hope this helps...JL

Thanks JL, so to help my thick-headedness understand better, there is a cable available from BMW that plugs into the back of the HU and provides a 3.5mm jack? And then I could use the mode switch to select this input and still keep my CD changer?

See this thread on what I found on the E60 cable:

Yes there is. Here is a link to the installation instructions: http://www.eurobuyers.com/instinstr/auxkitdir.pdf

I've e-mailed Steve Diamond @ Eurobuyers and Circle BMW for pricing.

Hope this helps...JL

Excellent! :D Just what I was looking for. Thanks for the link and emailing them; let me know what you find out. Love your 5 by the way; just picked mine up. I checked out your Cardomain site; you're a modding fanatic. I'm sure I'll be looking for your guidance in the near future.

Thanks again,
Craig
