is this normal?

i have a 97 328i and everytime i start up (when cold) it always idles the same rpm as though it was warmed up,i had other cars b4 in the past (not bmw) that when it was cold it idle at 1500 or more rpm ,but my car starts at 7-800 rpm the goes down to 600 ,is this normal for a bmw ???? thanks

Not sure what normal is, I'd like to know as well. This is my first winter with mine...On starting, idles way up (2k) then kinda bounces around for several seconds, then settles down to a normal idle after about a minute. :dunno:

Yes, this is normal. Mine might start around 700 (very cold days), and quickly settle at the normal 600.

ok good ,do you know why bmw's are like that ,bc i have noticed almost every car out on the market brand new or used idles high then kicks down.
