View Full Version : Methinks we need ADD - Austin Detailing Day

hockeynut
01-23-2006, 07:40 AM
I think we need a day to get together, wash cars, Zaino/Zymol/Griots/whatever.

I have a Porter Cable if anyone is interested in giving it a whirl (pls BYO pads though as I don't have extras).

Not sure about where to do it, though. It would be nice to have someplace with access to a hose and enough room to work. Suggestions?

And of course, weather must cooperate!

So first, who thinks this is a good idea? Then we can figger out when people are available and then watch the weather channel...

I'm in for whatever is going on. The detail thing may be kind of hard since we require rare weather (warm, dry, and cloudy).

Warm and dry is easy. I have a canpoy that will help with artificial clouds!

Thanks Afshawnt, for the PM. Of course y'all can count me in. Can we push the date a little closer to March though? That will bring me back inline with my 6 month detailing schedule. Plus I need to order more Zaino (One year, and I'm all out - damn all my mooching friends!). Besides if we wait til March - the weather will be a little warmer - but not hot yet.

That's too bad. I really want to go to that event, but I won't take my car, because I'm selling it in a few months. I think my tires are getting close to needing replacements, and I want the next owner to do that.

Welll.... you could do the usual Afshawnt thing and just ride along side while the big boys drive!
Besides the classes and stuff will be educational even ifyou aren't driving. It will give you some pointers for when your driving your new car in a strange land. Or maybe it's when you're "cruising" in a strange land

Since I may not make this one after all, I'm going to propose the next GTG be at Temple, TX for the SBK Drive for the Cure.

Since the location is relatively TX central, we can get the DFW, Houston, and Austin folks out there. The Temple event is typically on a weekend which is a plus (Austin is on a working day). As soon as a date is published, we'll all have to mark it in our calendars.

Unfortunately we had so many people that we only got 4 runs. I ended in the middle of the group because ZHP's are lumped in the same class as unmodified E46 M3. There was only 1 other ZHP. The owner had about 12 events under his belt so he was faster.

As I mentioned in my post that all kinds of people came including a mobility impaired girl. Not only did she take the class but participated in the Autocross.

You missed your chance to improve skills and make your driving around Austin quite a bit faster. :bigpimp:

The BMWCCA is having a Texas Hill Country drive and wine tasting on 3/25. Would folks rather do that than ADD? We can do ADD anytime, and my wife is actually thinking of taking 3/25 off (since she is a CPA, taking any day off in March is a big deal).

I am open for suggestions...

Unfortunately my weekend plans are up in the air. My dog has been sick since last week and do not know yet his diagnosis. :( He is spending the night in a specialty vet hospital where they are running all kinds of test on him. Hopefully I will know what is going on by the end of the day tomorrow so I can firm up my plans.

I appreciate all the thoughts and get well wishes.

I think we are beginning to see the end of the tunnel. It appears that Inka's (my dog) kidneys have started work based on blood work today. I got a chance to visit him at the doggie hospital and he seemed like a happy camper. They served him lunch and he made that disappear so fast. I had not seen him eat on his own for nearly 2 weeks, so that is another good sign. The kidneys were biopsied yesterday and should get the results tomorrow so that will help determine when Inka gets released. I am hoping tomorrow afternoon. :)

If Inka needs to stay in the doggie hospital over the weekend I will probably consider coming to Austin on Saturday.

Though Inka was apparently making some progress, the biopsy report came back today indicating that he was suffering from Amyloidosis, which is a genetic disease that affects mostly Shar-Peis, where protein latches onto the kidney cells, slowly shutting it down. There is no screen test for the disease and after the onset of the symptoms there is nothing to control or stop it. So Inka has come home to enjoy his last days where is the happiest.

How old is he?Inka is 5 years old. Unfortunately the disease can attack SharPeis of any age, including pups. It is caused by part of the immune system gone amuck. I am really bummed out because 5 years ago I also lost my first SharPei (10 years old) to cancer (Mast Cell Disease) caused by the immune system also gone amuck. :(

Many thanks to Hockeynut for the accomodations, supplies, and for a great lunch too!

I have to tell you, your kids are a blast! I enjoyed hanging out with your son today especially. Even your neighbors seemed cool.

The best part is, our cars all looked great. A little Klasse, a little Zaino, and a little TLC and WOW you could really see the results.

So thanks again. LDV, it will be great to have you come down the next time we have a meet. Hopefully the circumstances will be better then.
