View Full Version : Two stupid suspension / alignment questions...

Both regarding the E46:

1) Is an alignment necessary after installing new shocks? What about after installing a strut tower brace (how easy is it to knock one of those three bolts out of whack?)

2) What kind of equipment is required to properly perform an alignment? The shop I usually take my car to says they can do it, but their shop is rather small (just two lifts), and I've never seen anything that looks like an alignment machine hiding in a corner.

Yes, because you are taking the front suspension apart.

Not really, as long as the weight is on the wheels, it is hard to move the struts tops.

A couple of supports and some strings are all you need. It just takes a bit more skil than a fancy computer machine.
