1) How long were you in the business?
2) How long have you been out of the business?
3) What field did you go into?
4) How long before your income recovered to former levels?
5) What was the final straw?

5) I worked in a shop where the sales manager was supposed to be the final closer. If you couldn't get the deal, he would come in and try to do it.
Needless to say, the guy was a moron. He was abrasive and usually ended up pissing people off.
One day, I met an "up" on the lot and started to show him a new Wrangler. He loves the Jeep and tells me that he's would be willing to give me $100 cash to hide it in the back for the night. He would then come back the next day and complete the buy.
By the time the manager was done talking to him, he left without giving me any money and never returned. As that was the third time the idiot blew my customers out the door for the week I walked into the GM's office, told him what I thought of his "expert" closer and left the dealership.
But honestly, I was fed up with the buisness by that time anyway. Some of the things I couldn't come to terms with were:
Selling a $40,000 dollar car and making $50.00 (the mini for that store).
Getting my butt chewed out because I'm having a slow month (who cares what I sold last month).
Dealing with every genious who thinks that every car should be $250 per month.
Having hour long discussions with customers who think that the fine print below the add isn't meant for them.
Having your co-workers try to steal your customers when they come in on your day off.
Working 12 hour days.
Spending hours with a customer explaining every single options just to find out that they bought the car elsewhere because it was $100 dollars cheaper (without every giving you the opportunity to match the offer).I could go on forever... Overall, I found that the car buisness was not for me. It was the first time in my life that I was rewarded for taking advantage of people and punished when I didn't do it enough.
I guess in the end I descided that I needed to find a job that would allow me to wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and like what I see.

People have no respect for car sales people and I couldn't stand it anymore. This has been the best 4 weeks of my life. I will never go back, NEVER.
