I need some advice. I am in line to get an M5 late spring and need to determine if this is the right car for me. I live in Denver and every once and awhile we have snow days. I have been told by the dealer that with a set of 18" wheels with snow tires during the winter I would have no problem. Is he shooting me straight. Right now I have two cars a discovery and an M3 conv.....one for summer one for winter...but I only want one car. Is the M5 right for me or will I spend time on the side of the road waiting for the snow to melt?
THanks

If you have ground clearance, the M5 will be fine in the snow. You're not going to get through the deep stuff that the Disco can, but you'll be fine in six inches.

THERE is that pic!
I have been searching for that to send to a friend of mine (2005 E46 M3 owner) that refuses to take his garage queen out in anything but sunshine.
Sending him an e-mail now! :bigpimp:

Thanks for the pic.....what kind of tires and wheels are those? Also, anybody have personal experience with it in the snow. My M3 conv 2004 is like having slippers on ice.....sometimes even when it rains. Very scary.

That's my car in the pic. I use Dunlop Graspic DS-2s in the snow, and have also used the Dunlop Wintersport M3s. Both are excellent.

I've got Dunlop M3 sport winter tires on my M5. They work very well in the snow and ice. Haven't had any big snow dumps yet this year, but I'm confident that these tires will get me to and from work just fine. I am counting down to April 1st, though, as that is the date that I change over to the summer tires. Then the driving experience will get real fun.

I *love* that pic
I just wish it was snowing here today instead of raining... is it too much to ask to have -20 in the middle of the winter in Quebec to go skiing?!?!? :tsk:

That pic is awesome.
A lady at my work has a 325ia.
She always laments that "BMWs are so lousy in the snow".
I have lamented to her numerous times that in Europe you see BMWs in the winter with steel wheels and BMW hubcaps with snowtires mounted. It is a seasonal thing that people do: replace their sport tires with snow tires.
