View Full Version : Do non RFT's void the E90's warranty?

I read this comment in another forum:
"I asked the BMW factory here at Rosslyn, to explain why I cannot replace my tires with non run-flats. They said that tests done, show that aluminium suspension parts have more wear and tear with normal tyres, and the suspension is optimised for run-flats on the E90."

"Also..when replacing tires, they say you should try to stick to tires with a * on, like Bridgestone Potenza RSC - they have a small star on the sidewall - the star shows it was tested by Bridgestone on BMW's and is fully approved for ride, comfort, handling, wet, dry etc."

Does this mean that adding aftermarket rims and tires to your E90 voids the warranty?

That statement is total BS by someone with no knowledge of engineering since if anything the shock load inputs to the chassis are less with non-run-flat tires. This is something that can easily be proven by simply looking at the spring rate of the tire sidewall of the run-flat versus a standard tire. IMO, there is no possible way any warranty could be voided. I'm sure there is no "test" that shows there is more wear and tear with non run-flats...total BS.

Excellent. Thanks for clarifying and putting my mind at rest.
