Hey Folks,
I'm new to this site and was wondering if someone might help me out. I'm looking for a good and reasonable BMW mechanic to work on my 1997 528i BMW in the los angeles area. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

He does all my work. Really nice, fair and NOT A CROOK. He may not be the cheapest, but he will not rip you off.

John Norris at GT International in West LA has been doing a lot of work for the past year for me. Very good work, very knowledgeable (he races), and very busy.

I can also second EUROPEAN MOTOR WORKS....I went there for service as well. John is awesome too. EMA or THE M SHOP are the two BMW shops in LA I would go to.

Thanks folks for the quick response. Do you know if any of them offer loaner cars?

I'd be really surprised to find an independent shop that offers loaner cars. I usually just call Enterprise car rental -- very cheap way to get a car for a day.

My son uses Bullet in Orange County. At least they will give him a ride home or to the mall or to school when his car is there.

Alfred Busche, Independent Specialists, Santa Monica (Lincoln & Ozone). Fred was my mechanic for 29 years for my Bavaria, 3.0CS, and both first generation 6ers. He's also worked on my CL55, so in addition to 29 consecutive years as my Bimmer mechanic he has been my mechanic for German cars, for 34 years. I don't know if anyone else can give a recommendation based on that length of service.

He's fast, not too expensive, honest and very knowledgable. He works primarily on BMWs and Porsches, but has been rebuilding a Gullwing for the last several years. He was BMW-factory trained, but it was quite a while ago.

When I first bought my 3.0CS I met Arnholt Strong, a struggling actor who had been a world champion weightlifter (Mr. Olympia) at Fred's shop. Arnholt Strong was a stage name that never stuck. Arnholt decided to go back to his original last name and anglicized his first. We now call him Mr. Governor. Since Fred doesn't take care of Hummers, he no longer does Arnold's cars, but he still does mine.

Are there any in the SFV? My car's brand new, but I'd like to get an oil change prior to the scheduled interval and I really don't trust the "quick lube" type places (and don't want the hassle of the dealer).

I go to:

Kevin Auto Center Inc.
8050 E. Garvey Ave.
rosemead, CA 91770
Tel (626) 571-1663
Fax (626) 571-2483

Hi name is Kevin. He's really good. My sister took her 318i to him for the longest until she sold it. Her friend still goes there. Kevin used to be a BMW mechanic. He loves to talk and tell stories. He wil tell you how the service department, service advisers and mechanic will steal our money.
