How is this phone and is the battery? I heard that it charges down pretty quick. I just bought the 815E but I have trouble reading the text since the test is not in black. I need reading glasses and am not going to put them on everytime I use the phone. The only other option for me is the Razor. Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

I am a longtime cell customer and have been peripherally in the industry since 1986. I've had a lot of phones and tested a lot of phones, and have written user reviews for a few magazines.

I picked up a CDMA RAZR 2 days ago.

The battery with Bluetooth on did not make it through a whole day for me yesterday, and I did not consider yesterday a heavy usage day for me.

The UI is worse than the GSM versions, and I can't get the bright red bars off of the screen.

When I synced the phone to my Parrot, it dumped each contact in there uniquely for each nubmer I had entered for them, even though on the phone UI it listed each number under one entry. What a PITA!

I can hear the whine of the LCD power supply in my ear until the screen goes dark. Annoying.

I am considiring ditching this phone and getting another - maybe the LG 9800 "V". I dunno. I wish VZW had a decent phone.

PC Magazine tested them and rated both the 815 and razr highly, but said that the 815 had a much bigger battery. I'm looking to replace my 710 this summer, and as much as I'd like the razr, the bigger battery is more important than the slimness. Other considerations for me: the 815 uses the transflash card, and it uses all the same peripherals as the 710.

I have a VZ RAZR, and the battery life is pretty poor. As el_duderino said, when Bluetooth is on the battery does not make it through the day for me. With BT off, I think I go about 2 days on standby. The other wierd thing is that sometimes the phone crashes when I initiate a call with my BT headset! That really ticks me off.

I also agree that VZ messed around with the UI and made it worse. It is so lame it defies description. The SonyEricsson phone I was using had a much better UI.

Phone battery life is good in the RAZR as long as you turn the Bluetooth off if you are not using it. Otherwise I've tested my V3c with BT on and phone in standby and after some 9 hours the sucker is dead. With BT off and the phone in stand by there are still three bars in the battery meter after a full work day and then some.

This is normal operation of any cellular phone, some are slighlty better than other just because of battery capacity and internal power management. But the fact remains that any type of transmission drains the battery the quickest, and having BT on for an extended period of time will create unneccessary transmissions (looking for a handshake of devices every now and then). Even when a phone with no Bluetooth have lost the network system signaling (no reception), the phone will drain the battery very quick trying to connect to the network by transmitting and listening for the handshake every now and then.

Well, smell you.

Yeah, I was clear that if you turn BT off you get better battery life, even before your condescending tutorial on how BT works (you must be a EE?). But the S/E T608 that I had before this worked fine with BT on all day.

The convenience of BT HF in the car is largely negated if I have to turn it on and off each time I enter and exit.

If ALL phones really did suffer from this problem, that would be one thing. Since not all phones do have this problem, but the RAZR V3C does, it is a valid criticism of the handset.

Are you some kind of forum bully or something? Because one thing is to disagree in what I wrote and one thing is coming with personal BS.

Chill out, bro... nobody is coming to this forum to start stupid discussions, only to get answers to their technical problems.

I have a v3c and it can easily go a week (or more) between charges with BT off. I also don't hear any buzzing from the screen backlight when talking on it. I love the phone. Yeah, verizon's UI is not the best, but my background is a pic of a SG 330i so i just focus on that ;)

I have ditched my RAZR and bought a 7130e.

Easier to use, better screen, no buzzing, great battery life, no screwed up BT phone book issues, I can hold it with my shoulder, and email works great. Much better call quality than the T-Mobile 7100t I tried when they launched, and there's space between the buttons that doesn't exist on the 7100t.

Since I only use the Internet mail client to poll POP3 inboxes I'm not worried about any shutdowns, either. And I can ditch the VZW UI.

In talking to the VZW store manager when picking up a car charger, he admitted that there have been many returns of RAZRs, both for failure and for dissatisfaction.

I've got the RAZR on Verizon and it works great. Hooks up with my M5 bluetooth, lasts all day, no problems....I love it, best phone I've had, and I've had a lot of phones.
