View Full Version : M Coupe Complaints
I bought a new '02 M coupe and have had nearly quarterly overhauls since.
I'm on my fourth steering pump, due to metal shavings in the lines they had to replace the rack and pinion set up once.
both right and left front brakes have seized and dragged at different times-replaced
Oil leak from a cylinder drain plug
left rear view mirror needed replacement on delivery
worst radio reception of any car I have owned
a number of other minor annoyance repairs as well
I love the car when it is healthy but it isn't any fun to drive when it is in the shop. Anyone else having similar issues. Is it my dealer or my car. I doubt it is me, no track experience and plans to autocross-though no action yet.
Wow, sounds like a lemon. Definitely not the same experience that I've had. Mine is at 62K miles (third owner) and is so far bullet proof (knock on wood!). You said you bought it new, so there is nothing to blame on a previous owner. I suppose you could question the competence of the dealer service tech that is servicing it, but without evidence, it would just be speculation. Regarding the steering pump, rack, etc, there have been some documented issues on this forum of the power steering fluid cap either coming off or being left off by a service tech which caused contaminents to enter the system and ruin the components.
Sorry you are having so many troubles. Its definitely not the norm based on my experience and what I've seen on this forum (other than the known S54 rod bearing issue and the power steering fluid cap issue mentioned above).

I was tempted to tell you it sounds like a heap of rubbish and I'll trade you a CA M roadster for it, but I'm frm Maine too and I'd hate to lie to you.

If you keep going in for PS repairs, then the repairs are not being done correctly. Original factory brakes, or have they been replaced? Sounds more like poor quality repair work being performed rather than a bad car.
All original, no mods. Dealer repairs each time.

Is the car garaged?
Brake fluid changed every two years?
Drive it year round?
Not many S54 coupes in ME.
Perhaps the repairs have not been top notch - have you tried taking it to a different dealer for service? Sorry to hear of your issues, mine has not been perfect (what BMW is :P) but certainly not that bad and things were fixed as needed.
Garaged, but I do drive it year round. I don't intentionally drive it in the snow-too much salt. I have Blizzaks on and it handles surprisingly well in the snow and slush. All routine maintennance by the dealer-does that include brake fluid changes?

My experience is that you have to ask them specifically.
I rarely take my car to a dealer.

That would be my experience too, especially when they were paying for the maintence.
