I just got a new set of tires put on Friday. It's been dry since, but rained last night. This morning on the way to work, I almost lost it around a corner, and nearly went into a ditch. I know that brand new tires are somewhat slick brand new.

I had:

P-Zero Rosso Assimetrico, steel belts showing.

Replaced with:

Toyo T1R

This is on the same route I've driven many times, same speed. The P-Zeros with the steel belts showing handled better than the brand new Toyo's.

I was going to go with P-Zero Nero's this time, but went with Toyo's from a suggestion from a friend. The reviews I've read online between the two have been similar. Unfortunately Tire Rack doesn't sell Toyo's so I can't compare there.

So do you think it's cause the tires are brand new or did I make a bad decision?

Take it easy for the first 300 miles or so.

Thanks for the input. I've only driven about 180 miles or so since putting them on. I'll take it easy until I've put more mileage on them.

The T1-R's are awful for the first 500+ miles...even after they break-in some, you will still feel a lot of tread squirm/sidewall flex with them. I wish I had not bought them for my ZHP. I have about 5k miles on them now, and the rears are about 1/2 worn already; however, they still are very "squirmy" feeling compared to the Pilot Sport 1 that was on the car prior (and especially compared to the Dunlop SuperSport Race r-compounds I have on it at the moment getting broken in for auto-x season). If you are seriously into tire performance, the T1-R will disappoint.

Damn, I was hoping that it was a better tire. Initial impressions were that the tire did perform well, although I did notice a softer feel to them compared to my P-Zeros. The air pressure in them is a bit lower than what I ran in the Pirellis but I'm going to up them soon.

I should have went with the P-Zeros...oh well, live and learn.
