Hi Everyone,

At last, I'm ready be to a real E60er!!!! We leave on Wednesday night and fly to Frankfurt. Arrive via a bmw 1er rental on Thursday in Munich and pickup on Friday. I'm keeping the rpms under 4K and we'll determine top speed at 4k. Our 10-day itinerary, depending on weather given the summer tires and my mastery of NAV on the I-drive, is tentatively as follows: Might be too much Switzerland right now.

Munchen 2 days (day trips to Berchtesgaden or Inglostadt - kidding the Dingolfing factory
Reutte Austria 1 day - (only if tired and may go right to Lagano, Switz)
Lagano Switzerland day visit (might go to Marten instead)
Marten Switzerland 2 days (day trip to Lake Geneva)
Rothenburg 1 day (shopping day for my wife as I day dream about the 5er - could sleep in the car )
Koln or Border French city 2 days (tour castles on the Rhine in the Mosel Valley)
Frankfurt 2 days (drop-off and chilling out for the trip home)

We'll post pics on the trip. Be ready for a huge pictorial in the gallery.

Thanks all E60ers for all the help. Any advice is welcome

CVT Benhogan

PS Red reflectors and bumper fillers (euro plates are punch in for ED ) will be ordered when home

Out of curiosity, how much is the rental for the 1-series/unlimited KM or like 200KM/day and through what rental car company? Is it a stick or auto?

No guarantee of actually getting a 1er - the agencies reserve "type" only.

I drove a 130i briefly - wow, it was sick.

Yes I'm aware unless he went through Hertz's Prestige edition or is a Hertz Club Gold Member then he can reserve specific models.

That (Gold membership specific car selection) is good at major U.S. airports only. I don't think the 1er is part of the Prestige collection though, however much it may deserve to be.

Ahhh yes, you're probably correct on both accounts.

Anyways, I'm just curious as to the rate for the 1-series Rate Class as a comparison with doing ED and how much cheaper doing ED is. I can probably just go make a reservation and check the prices, but I figure since the OP already did the work anyways.

I arranged the rental thru Sixt. Sixt.com Approximately $66 for one day and I intend to drop off same day. (Frankfurt Airport to Munchen Bannhof) I assume they don't gty a 1er but my fingers are crossed. Otherwise, its an Audi or VW. :bawling:

Sort of hard to compare the "cost" of ED, since it's a savings. So, part of the calculus is how much are you saving on vacation costs by having an ED car instead of a rental car that would meet your needs.

No I know it's like comparing apples and oranges, but just out of curiosity that's all.

Wow $66US is not bad at all.
I figured close to $100 US. Is there a drop-off charge and free kilometers?

Okay... a couple things...

1) Why would you fly into FRA when your are picking up at MUC??:dunno:

2) You are going to do plenty of driving on your own car, why not take advantage of the DB system and get a lift on taking the fastest highspeed rail on the ICE train??:dunno:

To answer #1, American Airlines flies only to FRA directly from ORD. :( I guess he could change planes in LHR or another city and take BA into MUC, but :dunno:

I agree with #2, the ICE trains are very cool.... I

Yeah, the ICE Train to Munich would probably be awesome to do instead of renting a car.

I suppose it is a time elapsed thing, I frequently go via LHR (on AA) and continue on to MUC or VIE. (Of course, there is no JFK FRA flight on AA anymore:cry:).

Driving is the longest and I would guess that ORD->FRA then ICE to MUC is probably similar in time to ORD->LHR->MUC, and the ICE will leave you off downtown.

Yep!!!!! I'm getting ready to leave work now. Its around 3pm Chicago time.

Yes, we're using miles.

I decided to rent a car because its close to the terminal. And were carrying alots baggage and this can be dropped off right at hotel. Its also cheaper and we're not tied to a train schedule. I know the ICE is right at the train station and there is possibly I might take the ICE back to FRA on the return if the weather gets lousy.
