Can anyone recommend a good parking plate in Venice .... we will only be for a couple (4-5) of hours, so a place from where we can get right into the city would be great (without compromising the safety of the car).

Also, since we will be in Venice only for a day, can any one recommend on where to stow the bags at? We probably don't want to keep them in the car; and lugging them around in the city is going to be a drag.

Marcus330i, you had recommended a restuarant in Venice long time ago - can you tell the name of it again?!!

TIA

Stowing luggage trick.

Go to 3 star or higher chain hotel (Marriott, InterCon, etc.) and just go to the Bellman with your luggage and ask them to hold it.

They will give you a ticket and you can reclaim it later.

They will probably assume you are a guest checking out.

I know searching seems passe, but for somene who has been on here awhile... you should give it a try. Also: You might remember a thread from just a few months back entitled... er... ah... "Parking in Venice"

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105096&highlight=parking+venice

That thread was started 7/28/05 about a week before your ED and two weeks after you posted your trip dates. :p

Thats a very good idea - I'll keep it in mind for this trip and the future!!

There is a large (enormous is more like it) public parking structure located on the right side of the road into Venice....we didn't park there but saw it as we came in on the bus.

The restaurant is called Madonna or La Madonna. It's hard to find but worth the effort....ask a local shopkeeper for directions.

am_ver,

Marcus330i is correct. When I was there last time, I was staying in Padova and drove to Venice and parked at the large multi story parking garage. I cannot remember how much I paid but it was not that expensive. There is walkway, it was not too far - more likely a block or two, to "Bus Stop" - public commuter boat. You can take this to the main attractions. Enjoy!!

There really is only one parking option in Venice. Its big, ugly and safe and you cannot miss it...

(2) I don't use any of them. Instead, make arragements with Mattiazzo to take your car and luggage. They'll drop you off and pick you up at the water taxi. Bring about $40 (in Euros). It is worth it. Details:
Mattiazzo Parking Service at Piazzale Roma--the office is open from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Tel: 041 528 9494. Your car will be parked in a garage under surveillance during your stay in Venice. It will be brought back to Piazzale Roma to meet you on your departure.
