Hey all im a new driver from the uk, somerset if your picky and i have quite possibly the biggest passion for bmws ever

I am a "motorsport technology" student at Bridgwater college somerset, so I know a certain amount of technical stuff, but as I said before bmws are my passion.

I think i got it from my dad who isnt as much of a enthusiast but loves his BMWs, he has owned four in a row and currently drives a 53 reg 318ci which i also adore lol

But as mentioned before I am a new driver and am looking for a car, 316i E36 4door preferably, but also on the look out for a compact.

so if anyone can help me, and if you share the same passion i do I'm sure you woudnt mind please can you reply!

Thanks Sam :)

Don't bother with the 316i four-door; the 318i will cost you no more to insure, fuel or maintain, has decent power/torque (the 316i will manage but you will probably spend a lot of time at full throttle) and better suspension (it has a rear anti-roll bar and a thicker front anti-roll bar).

Buy the best-maintained, least-ruined (or least-modified) car you can find. A good, 97/98 car with <100,000 miles will be no more than £2.5-3k and should require little attention if it's been looked after privately and not modified. You can buy something older for one or two k, but chances are you'll have to start throwing more money at it straight away.

just recently bought my first ever bmw, a black p reg 316is coupe.

could not be happier with it. it was kept in great condition, fully serviced, half of which were at bmw. it's an auto, and the balance between performance and fuel economy is just what i wanted. a perfect step up to something more powerful later on.

my brother has a p reg 318i 4 door, and driving the 316 is alot more fun. maybe because its a coupe, who knows. auto's also come with a sports mode function which adds a little bit more zing to the throttle.

i took a train from london to kent and bought it the same day.

hope you find a good one
