03' 330i, tourmaline violet with black leather, premium, sport and cold weather packages, xenon headlights, Steptronic. Invoice price (including destination charge): $39,255.
I offered $40,500, which is a 3.2% profit over invoice (or $1,245). I figured I'd "lowball" my starting offer rather than risk "paying too much" off the bat.
He mentioned I forgot to include the $500 MACO charge and $160 training charge, bringing the car total to $39,915. His counter offer was 5% ($1,995) over invoice including the "forgotten" charges, making the total $41,910. But I got him to throw in carpeted and rubber floor mats as well as wheel locks.
All in all, the price I'll pay is less than the $42,639 TMV cost from Edmunds. So my wife and I thought it was a good deal and put down a deposit.
My question/concern: I'm taking PC delivery in SC... so why are they charging me MACO and training fees, when they never had to advertise that car?

Well, I certainly didn't want to. Trust me. I tried to get out of it, arguing that we were taking PC delivery, but he insisted that it's on the invoice they get from BMW, and proceeded to show me a couple copies.

I dunno much about the MACO thing, but want to congratulate you on the PC Delivery. I was there 7 months ago for the Driving School and peeked over to the PD Center and they indeed treat you like a king:thumbup: Do yourself a favor and bring your cameras. And when you are on the track, be sure to beat the heck out of that car, as you will never get another chance to do it again (I doubt you will want to beat the heck out of your car). The GSP Marriot's service is top notch. It all begin w/ them picking you up from the Airport.;)
Enjoy and don't forget to shoot off some skyrocks likeI did!!! (http://www.bevcor.com/beewang/M5DE/MVC-162V.MPG)
Have a blast:bigpimp:

Its not a fee for your personal car, it is a fee that BMW charges them for every car as a prorated charge per car. It depends on the region you are in, the number of dealers in your market, and the cost of advertising. It pays for ads in the local papers, television stations and billboards. Your dealer still has to do their own advertising on each car on the lot, BMW just does the market wide stuff for the product lines.
If you still think you don't have to pay it, negociate with your salesperson; however, please remember if BMW charges it in that region, regardless of if your car is presold, the dealer still has to pay it. Also, each region has diffferent fees, so I am not sure how accurate the one for your market zone is.

I think you got a GREAT deal and should sit back and enjoy it. Smile, you beat the system.
Now start calling BMWNA everyday to check the status.

MACO is legit, I paid $200 however. I think the fee is based on the dealer's region.:dunno:
The training fee sounds like BS to me. Maybe Jon can enlighten us:confused:
Even @1995 over, not a bad deal in some locations.

Both fees are legitimate. I have a copy of the Wholesale Vehicle Inquiry for my car that I got when I had a connection at the dealer, and on it you will find both fees at the bottom factored into the final wholesale price. For my car in New Endgland (RI/Boston Region) both fees equalled $500.

I was told that MACO fees in Southern California are 1.1% of price. This came from a salesperson, so consider the source!

Hence $160 extra is bogus:dunno:

They vary from region to region! On my car, it was 340 MACO and 160 Training Fee. In his area, the MACO is 500 so the total fees will be extra. MACO can vary greatly from region to region, it is not the same across the country.

As a side note for people contemplating European Delivery, these two fees are not charged.
The only ED fee is destination -- the same fee charged on every car. This was hard to understand when I was doing my ED, since my first salesman tried to hit me up for MACO and Training. John was good enough to point out the BS.

Thanks for the input guys. Anyone have an idea if $500 MACO is legit in Western Massachusetts? Or New England for that matter? Jon... any input?

I ordered 9/26, was shopping quite a while, all the dealers tried the fees, I ended up getting 900 over dealer cost (thanks bimmerfest), no adv, no other fees, even got the dmv fee cut in half, no administrative fees either, all that is left is picking up the car, expect delivery Nov 15, im status 152 as of this week
I think you will either pay the fee or waste enough time to wish you did, but just to pass along It can be done.
