also as a new owner could some one suggest a cd that i could purchase that would explain service,maintenance,and repairs?

Repair/service CDs can be found on ebay. Search for BMW Service Manual or BMW TIS and it should come up. Your car is OBD2

thanks mark, look you people need any help on mercedes just ask, i have 86 of the cars and have learned them well.
i do need to know on my grand daughters 1999 323is if and where the obd11 connector is? there is a big round plug at the left side of the drivers kick panel buy my supplier of the actron super scanner says there has to be a standard obd11 connector on the car somewhere.help

Hello and welcome. You have 86 benz's? So you are one of the few that didn't throw themselves off a building after Daimler took things over. You will love your car. My whole maternal side of my family is German and I speak the language and all that. None of them owns a Benz. They all own bimmers or VW's. There really is some merit to the driving experience with a bimmer. gl
