View Full Version : Air conditioner/Heater on everytime you start the car.
Anyone else notice the air conditioner/heater turning on everytime you start the car even though you had it off when you left? I called the dealer and they said they had several complaints but no TSB. Anyone figured out how to turn this off? It's annoying as hell...

Is "Auto" selected?
If so, it will do this to try and get your interior temperature to the temp you have set it at. That includes turning on the air very high at first. Totally normal.
If your Automatic climate control is not lit, then I can see a problem.

It's not on auto. No matter if I leave the car with the AC on or off, it turns on once I start the car. Check to see if this happens with your car.

I think that is a deliberate and standard set up. Not sure. That’s also when the air coming out of the vents initially smell with odour, as discussed in another recent thread. Actually it is a good idea to get rid of that odour with the automatic turn on feature.

I think I had that trouble on my M5. Try turning the A/C to off while the car is running. Then push the "auto" button two or three times quickly. Then turn off the car and restart it and see if the A/C comes back on.

The 650's and 06 BMW in general seem to have more glitches and gremlins.
I see some of the same issues over on the 5 series board.
My A/C stays off. (05/645)

I probably won't describe this a/c turning on automatically as you start the engine as a bug. It must be a setting/set-up/something somewhere. I'll read the handbook and figure it out.

What u describe is BMW design. If in Auto and u hit off (the center knob/button), turn off car, it will only stay off if you restart prior to the car going into sleep mode. After it has gone into sleep mode, it will come back in full auto. If you would select the individual modes off and set fan speed (center knob) to lowest speed it will remain that way both before and after "Sleep" mode when you restart. Only way not to get a full blast. I only do this during the 2 months of fall/winter/spring (well maybe slightly more) here in Florida. Otherwise I let it do the full Auto thing in the warm months. Been that way through MY04, MY05 and apparently MY06 and all CIP versions. Its the BMW way and I have learned to cope.

Im honestly surprised people DONT use auto. Thats the whole point. Automatic climate control. Only thing I ever need to do is adjust the temperature. Fan intensity, temp, everything responds accordingly. Im surprised your car isn't set to Auto in the first place.

I thought so. At the moment, I haven't used the Automatic mode yet, but set the fan speed using the centre knob, and turn it on/off using the knob button too. I turn off the a/c before I switch off the engine. Usually, I come back after the car has slept, turn on the engine, and the a/c is on automatically at the fan speed I last selected. (Then the odour comes out, but that's another thread). I still love my car

Try just leaving it on Auto all the time and only adjusting the temp. Fan speed and everything else compensates immediately.
