there was a recent thread in the e90 section: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134407
"art of tint" is a ways from princeton, nj, their price was $490 for huber optik ceramic tint all around job. i am probably going with formular one tint "pinnacle series" also a ceramic tint located in bear, de, their price was $210. but if u want certainty it looks like "art of tint" has the nod based on their clientele.

Here in Houston it goes for the same price as HO, in the $400-$500 range.

Pinnacle made by FormulaOne and Ceramic made by Huper Optik. Those films have been discussed quite extensively and a quick search within BF should yield lots of info. You may also want to visit www.formulaone.com (http://www.formulaone.com) and www.huperoptikusa.com (http://www.huperoptikusa.com) and you will get some good background info.

they are in NY and i hear nothing but good things about them(look at the clientele). i might get a clearbra done by them when the time comes. tinting is listed under the detailing services link.

ldv, i found out the reason why it was $200. although it is an authorized forumula one tint dealer, they do not carry pinnacle series, which is the highest quality i assume for non metallic tint. the price they gave me of $200 was for the classic series and comes in 3 shades. the classic series is non metallic from what i read and heard. do u think i should go ahead and do the install or pay double for huber optic in ny? thanx

The Classic line is the old fashioned polyester dyed film that will start fading/turning purple some years down the road. The warranty that comes with that films IIRC is 2 years, so that should give you an idea how much faith the manufacturer has when the metallic films do come with a lifetime warranty.
There are some less expensive options to ceramic film that you may want to consider, Madico CH (Charcool, not to be confused with Charcoal) and 3M Color Stable (http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/architecture_construction/window_film/node_K1C7QNJ8FMbe/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_CV0K6WBQN6ge/gvel_T4DCJBL6BVgl/theme_en_US_windowfilms/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html)film.

I did a lot of research on tint becuase I wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing in spending over $400 for tint when previously I had never spent over $200.
Although I know see that FormulaOne gives a lifetime warranty on their Classis series here is what TintCenter.com has to say about the different types of film:
Similar to car, all tinting film eventually break down. When this happens depends on the quality of the film itself, the amount of exposure to sunlight, and the workmanship of the tinter who installed the film. The worst dyed window film (http://www.tintcenter.com/articles/bt_types.html#dyed) can show signs of color fading in the matter of months under intense sunlight. The average hybrid type film (http://www.tintcenter.com/articles/bt_types.html#hybrid) lasts for 5 years, and the best quality metallized sputtered or deposition window film (http://www.tintcenter.com/articles/bt_types.html#deposition) can last for a decade.
Another good source of info on tint are the forums on tintduce.com. Have you been following this other thread on ceramic tint (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134407)?

Just called the place and they said $265 lifetime warranty for Solar Gard.
I called my boy and he says it's $175 lifetime warranty for Madico.
Has anyone heard of this brand?

yeah i called up detailing dynamics and they quoted me $265 for Solar Gard too. I am most likely going to go with them but it sucks becuase I have to leave my car there the entire day and they don't do tinting on Saturdays.

Has anyone heard of this brand? There is a lot more to film that just brand. Each brand has many lines with many price points.
Your posting is the equivalent of you posting and saying that the dealer offered you a BMW for $40,000 and if that is good price. Well, is that for a 325, Z3, M6, 750, etc?:dunno:
