Has anyone tried any other tires other than the stock Bridgestones or Michelins?

I have Bridgestone Turanzas and they are noisy like hell. I went to Tirerack Website and they also say that the Michelins are pretty scary too in trems of handling but could not find anything about road noise.

Does anybody else find their Bridgestones noisy.

I'd really like to try somethign that is quieter.

Thanks,

Nick

Try Dunlop. I have Dunlop SP Sport 01 and I love them. I also heard nice things about Dunlop Winter Sport M3. See that the reviews says on tirerack.

My stock Pirelli Scorpion STRs are pretty good. Good grip, and quiet overall. They're not great in snow/ice, but I have winter tires to handle that stuff.

I have the BF Goodrich g-Force t/a KDW-II on my 2006 X3. Awesome max performance summer tire. However, they are considered noisy by some but I don't mind them. To me they are quieter than my GF's stock tires on her 2004 330ci ZHP.

Really? I guess it depends on your definition of "great". :)

I had the stock Michelins and they were bad pretty much everywhere, except quieter. I swapped them out for a set Pirelli STR which provided a marked improvement in performance in both wet and dry. I also thought they did OK in the snow, but then again we don't get snow in DC like you get up there in Canada...

One thing I noticed is that they're noisier than the Michelins. To me, the improved grip is a perfectly acceptable compromise... :dunno:

Morale: stay away from the Pirellis if you want quiet.

Yeah, it's all relative I guess. They weren't terrible in snow, but here in Ottawa we get some of the worst winter weather in urban Canada so I didn't want to take a chance.

I guess the noise factor is also relative, because my Michelin winter tires are definitely noisier, but then that's to be expected. Like you I'm happy with the Pirelli compromise.

I just checked up the Tirerack site about the Bridgestone Turanzas, and no wonder, it again seem that I'm not alone there. There is this guy who had exactly the same experience with tire causing the car to vibrate. And just like in his case the dealership replaced a lot of other parts before they came down to tires. In my case, they replaced ballbearings, transfer case and that is only a 04 X3 with only 40K KM abord. Mind you, the noise was there even when we picked it up at 25k but really hoped they would find it sooner than another 15k km and countless trips to the dealership.

I have been very pleased with the 255/55/18 Toyo Proxes STs that I put on our X5. Excellent responsiveness,Great wet traction and showing little wear after 14,000 mi.If available in the proper size for your X3 you should give them a look, quite reasonably priced as well.
