does the tranny in 325i slow the car when slamming on brakes? why does it jerk real hard when i accelerate afterslamming on brakes?

Are you talking auto trans? If so, the slam might be the gears belatedly engaging because the fluid got slushed around during the abrupt stop. You oculd be low on ATF.

yeah it's auto -- been driving stick for 15 years -- tx i'll check the ATF :p
