I have seen this before, but i for some reason cant find the post. Here is the story, ive got a 92 325i with 160,000 miles on it. I am planning on putting enough engine upgrades on the car to get the dinan badge. But why put the parts on that engine, when i have an 98 2.8 liter with tranny just sitting around w/100k miles on it. My 325 is the m50 i beleive, and the 98 2.8 is the m52 correct? So i plan on keeping the m50 intake manifold and putting it on the 2.8 when i go to install it because it is less restrictive right? But here is the problem, what would be the easiest thing to do, i heard there is a download for the obdI cars to accept ObdII engines, is this true?? Or do i have to obc's??? So that is my dilemma, i have seen a thread about this before, but cant seem to find it, please help.

I don't know about the OBDII/I issues, but the manifold you want off of the 325 is the intake manifold, not the exhaust.

We are getting ready to pull a engine out of a 328i and put it in a 325i. if we get it done soon i will post and let you know how it goes. i will try to take pics as well. the 325i is a 95 and i think the 328i is a 96 or so

Installing a M52 engine into your M50 is a perfect fit, no modifcation needed. You can make a M52 engine into OBD1 (which in some states is illegal). As for the exhaust, I recommend you upgrade to the M3 exhaust verus your or the 328's. But as base upon performance there's no difference between the 325 or the 328 in relation to the exhaust producting more power.
You will need to upgrade your DME software to run the 328 engine. Also, your car could be EWS protected (but since yours a 1992, no need to worry you're not even ODB1 yet. . that could also be an issue.

i meant intake manifold. my bad, but 92 is obdI, i have the dme for the 328, and im getting a dinan free flow exhaust, so no problem there. i know it well fit right, but well there be any electronics problems, that is the thing. i am for sure going to have dinan upgrades on it after i get it in, now if i can keep my obdI then i could use the dinan performance chip, but how would i convert the m52(2.8) to the obdI????
