timing chain

in my 325i, how many miles should i expect out of my timing chain? have 197,000 miles now -- how do i know when to change it; like what are some symptoms it's wore out?

You'll probably hear it at idle. Just replace it.

it is at your own prefernce on changing the chain. You can go a very long time on that compared to the belts which last 40k. I am sure you will be hearing some rattling or ticking sounds coming cause it will be getting loose. that is my .02
