Guys, I road tested a beautiful '01 M5 with 21k yesterday... I slowly drove it from the neighborhood..all's quiet. When I got to the open road, I went full throttle and it sounded like the driveshaft was bouncing against the tunnel. It did it on a second full throttle....but I couldn't duplicate it after that (warmed up?). With no ability to raise the car, I thanked the owner & left. With 20k on the clock, I'm hoping it's not major..but if the 20k were hard driven miles..is it possible to have damaged a center bearing or worse?? This might be a deal breaker...but the car is gorgeous...I want to make the decision with my head and not my heart..HELP??? thanks, Steve

It could be the Guibo(rubber mounted support bearing)Not a real big deal if so.You really should have a potential purchase like that looked over by a good shop anyway. That way you could find out exactly what the issue is and if there any other potential problems. Good Luck!

I agree!
A dealer Pre-Purchased Inpection for $100-200 is worth the investment. They'll drive that car, shifting to all the gears and really check the over-all condition of that car prior to them lifting it in the rack to check the brakes, wheels, joints, brake pads/rotors and even give you the brake wear nos.
Leaks are notorous on this cars from valve cover gasket to rear main seals. kinda watch it!
The dealership can also pull out the service history codes that the car was brough in for
M5 are performance cars, its not your everyday honda's mind you!
Once you have all the items wrong with it the dealership will give cost to repair, thats the only time you can really decide on whether to get it or now
but I agree! get it check out and maybe the seller will give you allowance for the fix and then have your trusted mechanic do the work for much less than the dealer!
