The speed channel will be airing part 1 of the series "BMW: Birth of a Sports car" on Wed 4/5 @ 8pm and Thu 4/6 @ 1am, 4am and 8am (all times est). Its a 3 part series showing the design, testing and production phase of the E63 6-series. IMO any BMW nut (especially some of us anal engineers) will enjoy it
I was only able to see part 3 a couple of months ago but thanks again to GeneArch and Cobradav for hooking me up with parts 1 and 2

I'll be TIVOing the series off of Speed Channel, and if I ever get around to buying the DVD recorders plus hard drive I've been looking at, I'll make a copiable DVD as well.

I will Tivo and I do have an DVD recorder. Be happy to send them around, but I thought people were looking for the full set. I'd buy a copy too. I might check Speed Vision's website.

Yeah, I happened to catch one of those episodes a few months ago. Was really stunned to see something like that on TV! What a pleasant surprise that was! It was excellent!
Am also interested in any DVDs if you guys get them made!

I have seen all episodes but in German! It would be great if the English versions are available. Any ideas?
One of the scenes that sticks on my mind is the blue gaseous thing they used for determining how air (or whatever) flows past the car's profile.

Well airing on US TV I'd imagine it's in english. Am I missing something or did you see it with subtitles?

No subtitles. The entire narration was in German. Yours should be in English airing in the U.S.

I have the German three episode version and the more recent Speed Channel version in English on DVD. Unfortunately the English version is not all of the same quality. I will re-record the entire series direct to DL DVD at the best or second best quality possible. After that we can see what we can arrange. We passed around DVDs the last time and that seemed to work ok.

Count me in on the English speaking DVDs as well but I'll take the German ones if there's no alternative. Just I will have to find Dietrich to help with the translations since he's got time now that he's not zooming around in his Enzo.

Give me a shout if you'd like a copy of the show. I recorded all three episodes of the show on my DirecTiVo last time it was broadcast. I also edited out the commercials and joined the three "episodes" into a single 120-minute recording (40 minutes x 3) on my DVD burner.
Send me a blank DVD-R with a self-addressed stamped return padded envelope and I'll make a copy and send it to you. Or throw a couple of bucks into the package and I'll use one of my own blank DVD-R discs instead (if you don't have any lying around). I'm not looking to make any money off this. Just trying to help out felllow Bimmer fans. :)
If you're interested, then PM me for my home address so you can send me the blank DVD-R and return envelope.

You don't happen to have access to an FTP server, web server or bittorrent tracker, do you? If so, we could just grab it electronically and burn it ourselves.

I saw this series when it came out in late December. Being a car nut and BMW owner, I ate it up, of course. Overall, its not the most informative show and you could probably make a drinking game out of the amount of times the host says annoying phrases like "100 thousand dollar sports car". ITs certainly a "puff piece" for BMW. IIRC, the editing isn't that greast; they repeat several scenes, commentary and interviews in later episodes (you'll get deja vu a lot watching this series). None of this matters though, cause I know you will all be glued to your TVs for the duration. :)

I received a DVD from BMW when I signed up to go to South Carolina for the 6 driving experience. This may be what they will be showing on the speed channel. Has any one else seen this DVD? A lot of it is about the 6 series.

It probably is. My SA was talking about it as well. I think they give it out to M5 buyers as well.

Remember Dietrich showed up driving the Suzuki trying to race the 6, was it Italy or Australia or somewhere in South America.

I have the full set of episodes on DVD but they are not organized yet and were certainly not edited (with ads and all). It will take me some time but I can get them out to those that need them sometime. You can PM me with w /street address to mail. I already did this some time back but it was not the whole series then so I have mailers, etc.

Sorry, until recently I've been quite busy at work and also got engaged to a wonderful woman. Long story short, I was away from the forums for many months.
Many months ago, I burned DVDs for about the first 10 people who asked, but I see that while I was gone there were some additional requests for DVDs. It was nice being able to provide a service to my fellow 6er fans, so I'll burn some more DVDs if there are still folks out there that want 'em. :)
So if you'd like a copy of the show, the same offer applies. Send me a blank DVD-R and a self-addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you a copy of the show. Or enclose a stamped envelope and a few bucks and I'll use one of my DVDs. Email me at justin (dot) morgan (at) vallent (dot) com if you're interested. In return I'll send you a mailing address to send the DVD & stamped envelope.

FYI - the 3 episodes are currently also available as .avi on eM**e: English version, decent quality, removed commercials (with a nasty noise remembering where the cuts are... )
They're around 700MB each though, it took me nearly 2 weeks to finally get all three of them.
