I realized a few weeks ago that the convertible top on my 911 won't go down. After researching, I determined it needs more hydraulic fluid. I called the dealership and they say it is almost $400 to do this, but they would only charge me $300. Gee thanks. I determine at this point to handle this on my own, as I got my hands on a fairly detailed DIY that even an idiot like me could probably handle.

Yesterday at lunch I try to roll down the rear passenger side small window and it gets stuck, and a grinding/crunching sound ensues. Research tells me that this is most likely a blown window regulator.

I just say F-it and take my car to the dealership to address both problems. I take it at 2 pm. At 6 pm they call me and tell me my car is ready for pick up first thing in the morning. I got there at 8 AM this morning and the total damage for these relatively two minor sounding problems? $1,476.47

I really love this car, but damn it gets expensive. :(

I understand. You shouldnt be dealing with such high maintenance costs. To address this problem, I will happily trade you my low-maintenance 1996 Integra SE equipped with leather/canine hair interior for your 911. Please PM me if you are interested. :D

At least your starting to see the light. Porsche=money pit I bought a 1986 944 when I was 19 and I fell in love with all the pinnache of the car, the amount it was costing me clouded my view to my wallet though. I did all my own work, but the parts were outragous. At the same time I had a 82 Ford F150 I drove in the winter since the heater/A/C controls in the POrSche would cost 500 to replace. When I put a timing chain on the truck, I bought All gaskets and parts for it for 50 less than just the waterpump on the 944( 944WP= 249.99 Ford WP= 14.99 )The good news is I gave it to my moms to use as a trade to get a new car and they gave her 4200 for it I only paid 1500 in Dallas but had to fix the injection first the PO didn't know the problem with it and it sat for a year.

Yep that's Porsche for you... I know all about that... My 1992 Carrera 2 had electrical problems, around $2,100 later they discovered what the problem was... Then on my 993 C4S, brought it to Porsche Zentrum Frankfurt am Main, going for the BIG service, after $3,500 my car drove like new... Then my 1999 996 GT3, after it was recovered from being stolen I brought it to the Porsche Dealer in Den Haag in the Netherlands, that little stint cost me $7,000... (This is all besides the small services, oil changes, brakes and ofcourse a couple of millions in tires...)
I'm looking to purchase a 996 C4S later in the year but it has to be under warranty otherwise no deal...:thumbdwn: (hence my reason to stick with my Touring...:D )

I always thought the 911's were fairly reliable. My uncle has an early 80's variant w / 150k miles on it. He's owned it since new and hasn't had any problems besides normal wear and tear.

big money, even after that relatively minor car expense, the new plasma for the MBR, the new LCD for the office, you should still have around $122k or so left after your bonus last month.

if it makes you feel any better, i took my vintage 2001 bmw in for an oil change yesterday (curry's no less) and i left 70 bucks to the poorer. 7 bucks for a quart of synthetic? 16 bones for an oil filter? wtf? this pos is costing me a small fortune. if only i could remember all the little tips my buddy in kings farm taught me about how to change my own oil.

:dunno:

look at this way, how much have you saved over buying a new one in spite of the expenses?
