I'm about to place an ED order for July 17 pickup in Munich. I have very little pickup date flexibility - if BMW cannot deliver at that time, I may have to order the car for US delivery instead.
Some ED-experienced dealers are telling me "no problem - we can confirm the date within a few days after you place your order". Others are saying "we won't be able to get a confirmed pickup date until May." (Naturally the ones offering the better prices are quoting the later confirmation date. )
What are the facts here? If quick pickup date confirmation is possible, what does the salesman need to do to get the quick confirmation?

Your date should be confirmed a few days after you order.

I ordered my 325xi in January, 2006 for a June 23 delivery. So far, I have not gotten a written confimation and I probably won't until late Apr or May. My dealer says, "don't worry" so I'm not. I would much prefer a written confirmation but I was told that this in not the German way. My trip is set and I will be screwed if I cannot pick up the car on the 23rd but I'M NOT WORRYING!

I believe the written confirmation is on the PO. If your dealer knows what he's doing, and says you have your date, than you have nothing to worry about.

Well this weekend will be April already, so you should be getting your order in anyways. June allocations will be released at the end of April.
As I mentioned in your other post, the ED Dept is very responsive in getting back with dates. I originally picked an Oct 05 date and was told within 48 hours that's not going to work because they would not build ED allocations until Nov.
When I gave them the Nov. date, they gave an "ok' within 72 hours.
