This one from autoweek, here's the article:
5 spied! Fifth-generation BMW 5 Series to likely bow next summer in U.S.
Due in the States next summer as a 2004 model, the fifth-generation 5 Series will likely bow at the Geneva motor show in March with a new 380-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. Other engines slated for the 5 include a turbo 2.0-liter inline four and naturally aspirated versions of BMW’s 2.2-, 2.5- and 3.0-liter inline sixes. A 3.6-liter V8 and 4.5-liter V8 already offered in the 7 Series also will be available.
Underneath, the 5 Series chassis uses lightweight hybrid construction borrowed from the Z8 and upcoming Rolls-Royce. The chassis incorporates an aluminum space frame with extensive use of aluminum suspension bits to keep weight below the 3500-lb ’02 model.
The next 5 may not carry all of the 7’s design cues, but it will come with much of the high-tech range-topper’s hardware. Shared pieces include steering that corrects for high cross winds and heavy braking, automatic damping and dynamic stability controls, along with a less complex (read: not a Windows-software based) iDrive device and screen for managing onboard systems

Now that picture is a little better, but I'm still not a fan of the pointy turn signals. The weight claim sounds great, though. I will definitely want to drive one when it arrives.

Actually thats one of the better "spy" pics Ive seen. However, it still looks like a cross between an Accord and a Pontiac :)

It looks to me that the body is completed. Now, they are working on the technical stuff.

That better be body cladding still on those pics... because it is a very saggy butt looking vehicle. Without the Roundel on the rear, it is indistinguishable from a Chevy/Pontiac product. :thumbdwn:

And that being said, I fear that it's true with those rear lights curving up to the rear fenders :eeps: :(

Yep... rear eyebrows! Bangle seems to be changing the BMW design paradigm to include eyebrows everywhere. Where will they show up next??
On the bright side, I guess it will be another car that I have zero desire to have... so that's a good thing.

I'll wait untill March or April to make sure, and if this is still the new 5, I will order an e39.
I still have a problem with the new 7.
Yeecchhh! A Pontiac front end grafted on to an unattractive, slab-sided body, a greenhouse that looks like it came off a Chevy Malibu and an ugly ass. Way to go Bangle.

The rears are close, but not really the same. The E60 looks like a "stylized" E39, which may or may not be better than the original.
