View Full Version : irratic idle when still
I get an erratic idle when the car is still ( hot or cold ).
When I disconnect the ICV the idle increases to just over 1200 rpm but is steady and more responsive.
Ive tried cleaning the ICV but still the same.
Also disconnecting the MAF has no effect.
Any help appreciated

I've had this problem for over a year now. The car sort of rocks from side to side slightly when it idles rough, and it comes and goes. No effect when I'm on the gas pedal though. I cleaned the ICV as well, and the MAF is good. I just learned to live with it. At 147k miles, that's the only quirk the engine has, so I'm happy.

I had the same problem with my car few weeks ago and cleaned the ICV with a Subaru top engine cleaner (they are very strong cleaning agent better than what we get in the market) until now it is running fine the problem didint come back.

Sounds like a MAJOR vaccum leak. Spray around the vaccum lines, fittings, intake manifold, gaskets, etc with Carb and Choke cleaner. The rpm's will go up when you spray the leaking area. And to the guy who posted the original post - if you disconnect the ICV and your car doesn't start running really rough, sounds like you're in Limp Home mode. Same goes for the MAf- if you disconnect it the car should shut off, as long as you aren't in LHM.
