How to install a OEM Emblem??
Hi, I just wanted to know some info on a BMW emblem. I just bought one from ebay, its a OEM product. I just wanted to know, will i need a repair shop to install it for me, or can i do it myself. I need it installed on my front hood beacuse the on it right now is chipping and looks ugly. I am getting 2 of them one for the hood and the second for the trunk lid , which I don't really need but comes with the package. I am not much of a detailer or mechanic.

I also replaced a trunk emblem and although the website above shows you how to do it i would not recommend it. It is not as easy as they make it seem and you will also have to buy the little rubber things because they will most likely break. Also try not to bend the metal of the car because this will make the emblem wobble alittle when touched. good luck

It should only be a couple of dollars to have the dealership install the emblem. They install them for free if you buy it from them.

hell no they wont charge you a couple dollars...the quality imports in Ft.Walton beach florida wanted 20 dollars alone just for the installation....i tell you what with a plastic felxible paint padel or wedge you can pry it out and also you about 40 pound test fishing line if you have it available that is another way...oh ya and i recommend an extra set of hands becuase the paint wedges must be pryed at the same time!

I changed both the hood and trunk emblems on my car. In the manual it tells you how to do it. I had no problems at all and they look great. All you need is a flat-head screwdriver and either duct tape or electrical tape to cover the end of the screwdriver. You just need to be very careful starting each emblem so you don't scratch the paint but you just work your way around the emblem, pulling up a little at a time until you can pull it off by hand. The old grommets might need to be replaced but you can get those from a dealership for like a dollar or from bavauto.com, etc. I know this is very vague but just look in your manual, it tells you how.

Are ya'll talking about the main hood emblems? Come on--that is probably the easiest DIY project on the BMW. Changing windshield wipers takes longer than this fix. Small flat screwdriver, towel, pry old one out, pull out the old rubber "nuts" from behind the hoodliner (3 snaps) and then insert the new one. MAYBE 3 minutes of time total.

Yesh, I just replaced my hood ornament on my 740 il and it took about 5 minutes. I used a credit card and flat screwdriver. Looks choice.

For the record, my tested safe method of emblem removal is the best and has yet to be mentioned here. A piece of plastic shipping strap can be fed under the emblem with a wiggle and then pull the ends of the strap with equal force on either side. The emblem comes right off with no paint or body damage

I pryed mine off today with two small screwdrivers wrapped in scotch tape and a credit card. It took a little effort but I didnt scratch the paint and the new Roundel looks great.

I don't mind, I was just wondering abut this, and I saw it at the top of the forum. The original thread starter, may no longer need this, but it still helps a lot of people

Everyone complains when the search button isn't used. When it is and an old thread comes up you tell him not to post. I give the guy props for taking the time to look it up before starting a new thread.
Edit: Nevermind. I just saw that the person who posted didn't add anything significant and just posted to an old ass thread. My bad.
