What transmission will it have at launch. I want either an VW Type DSG or Manual, please no SMG only. Anyone have an idea?
BTW my Canadian dealer says 2 Door and 4 Door at Launch. They have more orders for the 4 than the 2.

I wouldn't hold my breath for DSG type box.
I thinkt he manual will depend on how much people complain about SSMG only option and how many E60 m5s they sell with the manual.
Of course you live in Canada, I am not sure if the E60 M5 is getting the 6 speed manual up there or if it will truly be a US only thing.

The E90/E92 m3 is only going to come in SMG2 for like the first year of prduction, then i think they said they might bring in a Manual. i even ehard they were working on SMG3, supposed to be up to par with DSG abnd even better. I ate manuals anyways, SMG's are faster in my opinion.

SMG2 is most likely gone. It was the tranny in the E46 M3. The E60 M5 use the 7 speed SMG3. It will be the same tranny the new M3 will use.

Only the late 2005 model and the 2006 model e46 m3's use the SMG2. as for the 7speed SMG being the SMG3, i didnt know this, i have never seen it called this before, i heard they were working on it, so maybe teh 7 speed is exclusive to the M5 and M6, but i hope whatever trany the M3 gets (just not manual) that it has 7 speeds. SICK AS HELL.

Nope, ALL E46 M3 SMG cars use SMG II or SMG2. SMG or SMG 1 was Euro only on the E36 M3. SMG or SSG is the non-M version in E46 3s and Z4s, which is a totally different system, not even made by BMW.
SMG III is the 7 speed box on the new M5/6. And most likely will be the one on the new M3 since the E46 M3 uses the same tranny as the E39 M5 did.
