For you gearheads that have an OBD-II tool, maybe you can help me out. I just got the OBD-II software from the e46fanatics group buy, but I always time-out immediately after I connect to the car. I remember reading somewhere that I have to send a message as soon as I connect, but I cannot find the message to save my life. NE1 out there know?

Don't want to sound dumb, but isn't that engine software?

What does this do after downloaded? :dunno:

Check out www.obd-2.com. It's a sophisticated scan tool that allows you to record actual real-time data.

Apparently some people have been having this so-far unknown (at least I haven't heard anything) disconnect problem. I've had the setup for a while (from the original .org GB), and I've connected mine to 3 different E46s without that disconnect problem at all.

DId you do your initial registration/connect properly?

Yes, I do initially connect find to the car's computer. But then it times-out almost immediately. It works fine on my Ford, and I did register correctly. What's the first message you send when you connect?

I connect, click on the Data tab and click on Send... this starts the data acquisition... works on both my E46 an Volvo V70 but I did notice there was no way to reset the service indicator for the Volvo, I had to check the Volvo forum to get the reset procedure using the odo reset and key sequence.

You say it works on your Ford. If I recall, there is a different harness for the Ford to accomodate the slightly different implementation of OBD2 that they use. Is it possible that Alex sent you the wrong interface?

Got the interface for all three OBD-II protocols. I'll definitely try hitting the Data tab and sending as soon as I connect.
