oem ipod interface preset problem

hi, when i try to select a preset from 1-5 i get the message "no disc" on the radio. i have all of the five preset correctly lable but i cannot select BMW1-BMW5. does anyone know what the problem is, it's an e46 m3 with no nav, no bluetooth, and the ipod is a 3g?

Can you play and music at all from the ipod?

yes music plays fine from the ipod, i just can't select preset 1-5 of the playlist. i have to manually select the playlist i want to hear before i connect the ipod.
