Hi , im new here but i've been reading the 6er forums for some months now and i have got to say it has been really interesting and quite helpful! I am in the market for the new 650i and just test drove the SMG one today (thats all they had - the salesman brought me over to the preowned section and it actually was the the sales manager's demo car) and was not really wowed by the shifting of the SMG, little slow?? or maybe its just me? probobly the latter. Im planning on getting the stick. Anywho I was curious how many of you ordered your cars since my dealer did not have any in stock. When did you negotiate the price and how long did you have to wait for the car after you ordered it? I am planning on pulling the trigger on the car within the next 3wks. Any input is much appreciated and thanks in advance!

2B--
I f you ordered from Sterling in Newport, I know that you could get a little under sticker, they have none in stock however, right now, some coupes no verts...)
BMW of Riverside is a good dealer, however, I would think that you could get it cheaper from them, being it outside of the OC...I bought our X-5 from them and was treated very well...I have never actually *ordered* a BMW, they were always able to dealer trade on the one I wanted...still can get a discount that way...but not a lot...of course a 6er will never be discounted more than just a couple of thousand below sticker which I got on my 645 last September....
Cheers-

I believe the bulk of the owners on this sub-forum have ordered (I have).
When did you negotiate the price and how long did you have to wait for the car after you ordered it?
You negotiate right away. If you are going to buy it three weeks from now, do it then. Walk in the door armed with what you want to pay 3-4K offthe sticker (After all your options of course). Sign your name on the dotted line and... You will have 7-8 weeks wait until delivery. If you get your name on the allocation list early enough you might see it a week or two earlier. The longer you wait to buy/order, the longer the time for the build.

Pull the trigger.

I live in San Diego.. but went up to LA to get mine... I just knew what I wanted to pay.. and what I wanted.. and what I wanted them to throw in... so... found a dealer that would do it. and ordered... now .. I'm a very very happy driver... you won't regret it.. and if you want to work with my dealer.. let me know.. I bet he can beat most ... but ... that's for you to decide...

Do you think there is cross-over between his iDrive and his iWrite? Maybe periods (full stops to you) have been banned in Encinitas.

Welcome 2B!
Most of us in this forum (for what I have read so far), have ordered our cars to our specifications. The wait is cruel, but picking it up after almost two months of wait is priceless!:D
I am sure you will definetly enjoy the car and find Bimmerfest very informative and quite often entertaining...
Welcome to the 6er brotherhood!
Ordered mine on 2/27 and received it 68 days later. It took
The car is a March/06 build (early march).
~3/15 Arrived in Bremerhaven to wait for the ship
3/27 loaded on the ship to California
4/12 passed through the Panama Canal
4/23 Arrived in Port Hueneme California.
5/2 Loaded on truck to Colorado
5/5 Arrived Colorado
5/6 Accepted car and took delivery.
I was surprised how short a time it took from order placement to build. When I ordered my 745i three years ago there was a delay of 30+ days before building.
I hope this helps.

Ordered October 31, 2005, picked up December 23, 2005. Details in signature below. Only change for me would be to add comfort access, which wasn't available when I got mine.
No issues so far, has been a wonderful car.
I must not be typical of the owners within this forum. I was having lunch at The Arches in Newport Beach, drank a bit to much, walked next door to Sterling BMW and left with a 650i vert that had arrived that morning.
You might have a bit of a wait if you are going to get the Manual transmission as most aren't pre-ordered by our US dealers with that transmission. Good luck, you will love owning this car.
