How do you get off a manual shift knob. Is it like the automatics where you just have to pull it really hard.

You just pull straight up really hard. I have a new one on my car though and I can't get it off. It says it in the manual though. Another place says it helps if you put it in second gear and pull straight back. It worked on my old one but I can't get this new one off.

Try climbing into the back seat and pulling. You can get more leverage from back there.

Put the shifter in 2nd or 4th and just pull. It should pop off.

i just fitted a new one to mine and after A LOT of pulling, i took the plastic top off that shows what gear to go into and there was a screw underneath it!!! explains why it wouldn't come off.
basically there is a screw in the top, under the small plastic disk that shows where the gears are :-)

thats what i was gonna tell you... lol... because it's usually not THAT hard to get off. if so.. then there's probably a screw like the aftermarket ones. maybe not the same place.
