As a newbie, I may have put this question on the wrong forum yesterday, so at the suggestion of a more experienced member, I'll try again, if in case I missed the mark yesterday. Air conditioner was replaced ten months aago (compressor and drier). Recently it will operate only at idle. When rpms go up the compressor shuts off. The pressures are within specs. A new control module did not help (an expensive guess). However, the old one appeared to have some corosion as if it had gotten wet at some previous time ( which can be a problem when drains are plugged and the cartpet gets wet--or so I have read). Does anyone h:thumbup: ave any less expensive guesses for this problem? This is a 1995 525it with 92.000 miles. Thanks for any guesses, solutions or sympathy.

Sounds to me like it's a pressure problem. The compressor will shut off when it senses the system is empty and possibly when it's overfilled and the system wants to freeze up. I'd look at the pressure sensor for the compressor as maybe being faulty. I can't remember off the top of my head if it's on the side of the compressor or on the drier. Maybe a replacement might fix the problem. My only other thought would be a faulty expansion valve but that should also show a higher reading on the gauges.

I had a problem like that on my 525i when the compressor was replaced when it started making noise. The specifications for the pressure were incorrectly listed in the manual. The new compressor started making the same noise which didn't impress my wife. After checking, my mechanic reduced the pressure and the noise went away. They reinstalled the old compressor with the correct pressure level and the noise also went away. They didn't charge me anything for the service. Fortunately for them, some time later the compressor did go out and needed replacement. Make sure they check the pressure levels for the AC system since I think that the factory specs may be incorrect.
