I originally posted this over in the Z car forum and it was suggested that I cross-post here.

Thanks for any replies/comments.

Has anyone looked into options for track wheels and tires for the Z4 M's?

I've done some cursory checking on tire rack and have found, at least according to the search engine, that there doesn't appear to be any R compound "sticky" tires available in the stock 18" sizes. There are a couple of Extreme Summer Performance tires but nothing specific under the track/competition DOT area.

I did find some nice options in wheels, mostly SSR's that weigh in the 18.5 lb to 20 lb range, which would be 5-6 lbs lighter than the stock wheels.

Another interesting option that I was thinking about would be to go down a wheel size to 17's and pick up a set of the SSR's in that size; the tires would be lighter and cheaper as well which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The recommended tire sizes seem a little odd - 275x40/17 tires for the rear.

What have people been using for this type of thing? Fikse? BBS? others? I'm interested in hearing other opinions.

Another question is whether or not the 17" wheels will fit over the brakes on the new M Coupes; essentially how confident is tire rack in their fitment choices listed on the website?

Thanks,

There is quite a bit of clearance in the rear for large tires. 17" would generally be a bit more desirable from a weight standpoint. SSR Comps in 8.5" front and 10" rear would make sense, or for a non-stagger Kosie K1 Racing 17X8.5" all around with 245/45R17 all around should work well. Race compound tires are available in both 245/45R17 and 275/40R17.
