Hi all,
Does anyone know what it would cost to ship an X5 from the factory to the Seattle area? Definitely would be looking for enclosed transport. Great forum to belong to!:)
Thanks

First of all, welcome to the forum....
Might be a stupid question, but why do you want to ship the car from the factory to Seattle (where you're obviously living)?
If you got the time to go to Spartanburg, you should def. TAKE your time to drive your new baby home!
And if you don't go to Spartanburg - well, pick it up at your local dealer...
Or are you just curious about the real shipping-cost?? Please let us know what you're intending...

Well, I'm considering the long drive back during the summer with a new car. As far as driving it that far for that long would be great. What I'm worried about is road construction, tar, bug stains on new paint being baked on. Being a little stupid about the worry but considering all options.
Found the best pricing out of a dealer in the Midwest so that doesn't help much with the driving worry thing. I suppose I could have it sent to a dealer out here, but I don't know if I like that idea because of the guilt.
Would save a lot of time if we did the Performance Center Delivery, watch her get loaded on a truck and fly out.
We'll see how it works out:eek:
Thanks for the response.

Drove my 540 across country to Bimmerfest '04. Lots of bugs, but no damage. You'd love the drive! Hell, I'll volunteer to get it half-way to you for gas money! And I'd Zaino it for your pick up!

You're welcome. I can see clearly now...:p
First of all: NEVER consider an offer "best pricing" before you've contacted a dealer from this board ("Ask-A-Dealer"). Take Adrian, f.e. He could give me a discount on the X5 - I can tell you, very good deal. My local dealer, where we purchased the 760Li, would have loved to sell that car to me, but he admitted that he couldn't match that deal. ""Too bad you found that dealer.." was his exact wording. The other local dealer was laughing at me when I requested the same rebate from him...:dunno:
Well, if you got the time I can only recommend this long drive home. For 5 reasons:
- You get used to the car
- You can test the car and find out if it's running as it's supposed to be
- The drive back home counts towards brake-in
- You could save $$ for shipping/handling
- Driving across the country is always a great experience
As for tar, bugs etc.: That's not a real issue if you clean the car right after your return. Think about it from this point of view: Do you buy the car to keep it clean 24/7 or to drive it? I know, it's a tough decision - I always try to find the "middle solution" on the 3 cars we own, but when I'm in doubt, I chose to DRIVE it!
P.S. We picked up my M5 and my brother's X5 In Atlanta at Adrian's dealership and drove them back home - a 600-mile ride. It was simply awesome and a great opportunity to get used to the car. In your case, the opportunity is even bigger!:)

I do agree with that, finally in the end you want to enjoy them!!

This may be a stupid question, but do you get a discount by picking it up in Spartanburg. Is it similar to ED?

No, not what so ever. I just was thinking about it for that "once in a lifetime" thing. You still have to pay the destination charge and everything. One dealer did say it would save him a $100 or so because of no detailing and prep. So I suppose in the end you could try for that discount!
