I can get anyone a MiG-21 for a lot cheaper than that! Hell, a Su-27 isn't out of the question either.

Strangely, one piece of military gear that I purchased in the former USSR just happens to be the high altitude flight suit (g suit) for the MiG-23 - helmet, suit and shoes! It takes a good 20 minutes just get it all on. :yikes:

I'll only take it if I can add neons around the licence plate and the side skirts. :D

That is because the engine needs to be REPLACED after 80 hours of flight time! The USSR Air Force did not fix used engines - they just threw them away.

Compared to a F/A-18: it requires a service overhaul after 700 hours of flight time.

Approximate numbers - ex-GF's dad was a Finnish Air Force pilot, trained on MiG-21, but retired after two years of flying the F-18.

Reconditioned MiG engines (prior to the MiG-25) cost about $5000 with spare parts ...

This eBay deal is a rip off.

Anyone need a T-72 tank with non-reactive amour plating? Call me. :D

Hmm, don't like it with single exhaust tip, I prefer dual tips :lmao:

Wait, isn't it the exhaust ?

 Or a 125mm main gun.

I think that with 45,000kg and an 850 hp V-12 turbo diesel capable of 85km/h, they just might be willing to add a four tip "DTM Style" exhaust for you. :D

I hear that the ride characteristics of the M1/A1 are much better though. :yikes:

I am not sure that the Red Army was much into servicing any of their "grunt" equipment. They would often just throw broken equipment away - it kept their military industrial output going strong! Talk about jobs for life.

Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod, Gorky, USSR

A case in point: a friend of mine (he is into off-road trial driving) bought a 1972 Russian/USSR G.A.Z. 4X4 from the Finnish Army motorpool. It was kept in fine condition and only driven 37,000km since "new". After having it for a month, my friend decided he would change to winter grade oil. The problem came when we looked for the oil drain plug on the oil sump; there wasn't one. The idea being that the vehicle would never need an oil change because it likely would not last that long. Clever Communists!

Second problem: after driving it for awhile, he noticed it had a low oil pressure problem (he is a master mechanic). After a leak down test was done, he determined that the main bearings were likely shot. He removed the engine, and opened it up. Surprise! No main bearings, just the crankshaft against the engine case.

Lastly, the straight six engine (rated at about 67 hp) could run on gasoline, diesel, karosene, or heating oil. Wow.

Here is the beast (GAZ 55)
