Due to a divorce, I moved down the food chain to a used Volvo RWD. Fond memories of
E28, E34, E36. A co-worker has a '88 325 5-spd 2-door FS. How do you ID the 325i from the 325e if they were still being offered then? The car has the dual outlet rear muffler. I can get the VIN from her. 257k miles, oxidized paint, huge dent on LF fender behind tire where she whacked a parking garage support column.

I doubt I am going to buy it myself. I will try to help her sell it. She says it runs good, needs shocks, A/C inoperable, great aftermarket stereo. I will ask her how much when she gets in to the office. ARe u interested?

I could be wrong, but I thought the "e" model was dropped after the '87 model year..

Although, if it just says 325 and not 325i, that would make me think it was an "e" model... that is the way the '87 "e" models were badged...

Look at the valve cover. If it has the BMW emblem then it's an eta. If it has BMW with the surrounding lines, then it is an I...............

Sounds like a super eta to me. The engine is fairly desirable among e30 enthusiests.

i thought it would be badged with the "e" on the trunk - we have an '88 528e, and it has the "e" badge on the trunk. but checkin' under the hood would help too.

you can try running the last 7 of the VIN on realoem.com too?

They dropped the "e" designation on the 3-series starting with '87.. If you see an '87 that just has 325 on it, then it is definitely an "e". though, I didn't realize they even had 325 "e" motors in '88, so what do I know?

I had a friend that bought an '87 325 brand new...
