Wow, cool, I was wondering when these events would return.
Now I'm waiting for MB and BMW and others to put on something similar. :)

I hope they give you something to wash the taste out of your mouth afterwards :D
When I was working in Germany I had a Lexus IS200 and it was absolutely horrid on the autobahn - steering was very nervous and the car just didn't feel stable at speed. I actually traded a co-worker for his Passat.

The stuff they gave away last year was pretty worthless. We got BMW travel mugs at the E92 drive. That was the best thing I have ever received at one of these type events.

I'd be up for a 'Fester lunch too after you all drive the Lexi.Traditionally the gang has stayed around until late in the event so we can get as many rides as possible, specially after 3 PM when the crowds thin out. Afterward we have gone to a late lunch/dinner close to 5 PM at a local ethnic restaurant, not available in Austin. Last 2 times we have done Niko Niko's so I am sure we will have to choose something else this time.:D

So I've talked with LDV and xSpeedy and it looks like we're going to leave my place around 7:15AM. Figure half an hour for breakfast on the road and we should get there between 10:30 and 11. Whether or not we make it to a late lunch depends on how the driving event goes and how late we get into Houston. As LDV said, we usually like to close down the place because that's when the lines go away and you get some really good track time.
Then again if the event sucks - we can leave early. Or if we have a group decide that - screw it- it's only driving - but how often do we get so see other Porsches... I mean other bimmerfesters.
Might be a gametime decision for us.

Though this year's version of the Taste of Lexus event was reduced in size they still tried to maintain an upscale feeling by offering gourmet food, Fiji water, smoothies, etc. They also had waitresses working the waiting lines offerings soda, water, cookies, etc. By contrast the Mazda event sold water for something like $4 and BMW offered cookies and coke. :tsk:
The courses were short and none of the cars were true sport sedans, well maybe the IS series. The only competition that Lexus brought this year was for the LS series where they had a BMW 750 and an MB S550. The lines were long for the competition. I waited over 30 minutes to wait to drive the S550. :tsk:
We were constantly reminded that we should only be pushing the cars 7 out 10, lest we wanted to be expelled from the event. Overall it was a good experience but not as thrilling as expected so we broke tradition by not staying to close the event. That was fine because 2 Houston B'festers were waiting to join us for lunch, TLudwig and Mtbscott. Their patience is deeply appreciated as they were only given less than 2 hours notice that we would be able to meet. Unfortunately Dave 330i could not join us is the SE TX B'fester GTG of sorts. :(
Since we had more than our share of food at the Taste of Lexus at the Chinese restaurant we got together we just ordered some food to share but did stay quite a while there. After we all got to check out Mtbscott's new Cayman S black over tan. I also go to check out TLudwig's new Tacoma TRD double cab pick up, which already has had its share of mods. :D
This must have been one of the strangest B'festers' GTC. There was only 1 BMW in attendance, my IR ZHP. :eeps:
The GTG was attended by Afshawnt, Xspeedy (and Mrs. Xspeedy), Hockeynut, Hockeynut JR, Icemanjs4, TLudwig, Mtbscott, and myself. Thanks to the Austin B'festers for taking the time to come down to the big city.

That guy in the green shirt got whacked :yikes:  !! WTF caused that to happen?!
I guess I was surrounded by bimmerfesters the whole time I was there. . .sorry I didn't introduce myself, I had no idea what any of you looked like.
Anyway, it was a good event again this year. The highlights for me were:
1. Seeing a fight break out at a Lexus event (of all places  ).
2. The crowd cheering as that guy in the 750 took out all of those cones.
3. Ripping the IS 350 and GS 450h around the course - driving the CVT in the GS was a unique experience.

That guy looked and acted like an asshole when I asked him if he mind that we switched drivers (Sunday they made a rule that you can't) so the kid behind me, who was riding shotgun, could drive. He acted as if I took his day away because he had to go back in line. I don't know what caused the black lady to strike him with her purse. I was there and saw it too. I wished she should have smacked him a second time. The guy looks like a hot head, had I taken a picture of the scuffle, he would have rip the camera from me.

I enjoyed seeing all of the Austin folks again. Seems kind of weird, our first local 'Fester meet in August of 2004 had around a dozen Houstonians, the next one last year was mostly Austinites. The only locals I still see everytime are LDV330I, Dave330I, and TLudwig. Perhaps we need to try getting the word out again and meeting halfway between Houston and Austin, I'm sure there's lots of folks on this forum from both cities who have been lurkers only. Even though I'm BMW-less for the time being (in less you want to count the MINI), I still enjoy hanging out with a great bunch of car enthusiasts anytime. Just as an aside, our Houston MINI Motoring Society has monthly meetings that draw around 30 members.
