Greetings,
I am looking at a 1999 328IC with 86,000 miles. One-owner car with dealer service records. Service records indicate that none of these items have been replaced yet:
Valve cover gasket
Control arms, bushings, struts
Rear shocks
Radiator or waterpump
If I purchase this car, I want to budget in enough to have these items done fairly soon.
Does anyone have an estimate of how much I should allow for on these items?
Thanks for your help.

If you want to look at parts costs, one place is Pelicanparts.com. If you're doing the work yourself you'll have a good estimate. :)

You're probably looking at a pretty penny, depending on who you take it to or if you DIY. Expect the unexpected with high mileage BMWs.

What is a fair dollar guess, if a dealer or independent does the work?
$1,000?
$2,000?
Thanks for your help.

OK, say a shop charges 90.00/hr for labor at ten hours thats 900.00 plus parts. Of course more stuff could go wrong, so keep another 1,000.00 in reserve. BMW ownership is not for the faint-hearted. :)

Trust me, go DIY. Do a little research, invest in some tools and save thousands. I've owned my 325is forl like 4 months and I have saved probably 4 thousand dollars by doing all labor myself. Don't be intimidated by the name BMW either, it's still just a car.

You're probably looking at a pretty penny, depending on who you take it to or if you DIY. Expect the unexpected with high mileage BMWs. 86k on a 99 is hardly high mileage. I got mine a year ago and it had 85k (2nd owner). Most of my $$ has been spent on mods, just a few hundred on maint. Cooling system may need attention ASAP, good luck.
