I have a 1999 323i convertible. By reading other threads, I figured out that I needed a final stage resistor because my air conditioner cuts off. What I can't figure out is where does this part go. I have ordered and received the part. Some of the web sites say the FSR goes behind the glove box. On my model, the glove box IS NOT coming out. I have spent 2 hrs just trying to get to step one. Is that where the FSR actually goes? I 've seen other sites that say it goes on the driver side. Please help!

On your car it should be (assuming it is an e36) will be on the drivers side tunnel almost where the center consul meets the carpet. You will need to remove the lower panel on the driver's side to get to it. If it is an e46 then I have no idea but would expect it would be close to the same location but maybe not...

Ok, thanks for the reply. Now a stupid question: How do I find out if it is an e-36 or e-46? I think BMW did both of the 323's that year.

LOL. sorry....=)
e36 have the signature "rectangle lights" with the circle style (boxier body 2)inside....where as the e-46 are more round. The E-36 has the same body since 1992, where as the new ones, well I don tknow, are 1999+.
hope that helps.
do a google or yahoo search for e-36, then click images. THATS a quick sure fire way to tell which car you model you have.

Verts tend to be one model year behind the coupes, so when the E46 came out in 99, the convertible model was still an E36 that year.
I've had the wonderful pleasure of finding out that some of my parts were modeled after the E46 despite being an E36 body (brake lines for example).
