Seeing if anyone might know whats up. On occasion when I give it half throttle or so the engine "hesitates" for a moment and then picks back up again. Feels like something akin to the AC compressor turning on. Coils were changed about 10k or so ago so I don't think thats the problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you check out my last thread, you'll see I have a similar problem. The belt for my AC compressor isn't even there. It was removed before I bought the car. I don't think thats the problem (with mine at least). Does your power lag and pick up randomly/constantly? Mine usually picks up at around 3000rpm. My engine is also backfiring at low rpms.

I changed the plugs today, we'll see what that does

I have heard that the straight 6 engine has massively more power above 3000 revs......i know mine does.
it is quite sluggish and 'poppy' below, but as soon as it gets there is awsome.
I think it has something to do with how the vanos works but am sure one of the guru's will confirm or dispell that one.
is there a way of getting power lower down?

yes in theory you could, more exhaust backpressure and leaner air fuel ratio. but at high revs the car would be less responsive or more powerful and may possibly seize depending on how lean you are. either way its not good.
my suggestion would be to run premium unleaded fuels with the highest octane available (although this benifits high rpm more) or simply rev your car harder...
in response to original question.
when you give the car half throtle, do you ease it on slowly or snap the throttle on. to slow could starve the car for fuel = hesitation. to fast means tomuch fuel = hesitation.
best way to be sure. in 4th gear. push your foot flat to the floor fast with about 2-3k,rpm to start off.
if the car dies off and lags more i would say ignition problem/somthing electical or possibly vacume leak.
or
the engine should load up, run a touch louder gradualy pick up rpms and at about 4k start to pull hard... if this is the case i wouldnt worry the car is fine
i hope some of this made sense and it was helpful

i heard in the e36 325i's the torque kicks in at a higher rpm.. that happens with my 325i also..

my 328i definitly has more torque at higher RPM
it is almost like the ECU is programmed to take off at 3000RPM (though i am sure it is just how the engine is setup)
Am going to take siknis's advice and just rev more hehehe
