So it looks like in august i will be getting my very own 318 Convertible, and of course ive got questions.

pice is 1500, and its got 190k, cdplayer, manual tranny, and power lock and windows. Hows this price, good/bad? let me know.

This is going to be a project car for me, since im in socal i can do this kind of thing and not really have to worry about weather. How hard are they to figure out mechanically? Im not a genius, but im no moron either. Lets say compared to my e46.

Finally can someone point me in a good direction for things like wheels, suspension, and power upgrades?

Thanks a lot to all you e30heads out there.

thats a good price. however you need to replace the hydralic chain tensioner if it hasnt been done already. These are notorious for leaks. So look into doing an entire gasket replacement of the front end.
bavauto.com will have alot of stock parts.
Ireland engineering has an exceptional supply of suspension parts.
Look into getting a chip

cost wise what are we looking at to get her running like new? Thought about rebuilding the top end with a mechanically inclined buddies help, but would that just be a waste?

I know that the e36m motor is a popular swap, what does that run?

Thanks for all your help, im pretty much a n00b:D

Seems like a clean car for 900 bucks.

Not bad for the price. When your finances allow, swap out those wheels for some OEM's.

Besides that, car looks good.

yeah...I was going to ask the yaer when you talked price. 190,000 is a lot of miles...900 is about right...
the body looks good...hit the junkyard for the stock rims and paint them back to factory look yourself...most factory rims are painted anyhow...one of those snap-top trigger handles for spray cans works really...remember the secret to good painting is preparation of the piece to be painted...clean/sand...prime...color...clearcoat...or if you have the bucks get them powdercoated factory color... nice car/ fair price

You just got a great deal. That car looks great, and I'd say it's worth more than $900 bucks.

I'm a fellow E46 owner myself, and I just got an E30 earlier this week -- a 1989 325i coupe. I've found that they're pretty easy to work on. If you have experience with working on an E46, the E30 should be a breeze.
