Need Help with my 89 325IX

Heres my deal, and tell me what you think. As i stated in the title i have a 89 325IX. The problem im having is the check engine light flashes while im driving but stayes steady while im stopped.On top of that it only seems to do it when the cars worm. Also the electrical system serges but i only notice it when i turn the head lights on. I was thinking it was the voltage regulator but i dont know. Please help me out with any ideas on what it could be. Thanks.

I think that'd be a good idea, but as I've said here before........I suck at electrical problems.

Can Anyone tell me how to test the alt. to see if its going bad?

take it out and take it to an auto place. Theres really no real way to tell while its in the car. They have a special machine that tests it at every speed and load setting. Its really a cut and dry process. I took mine in and it was bad. Paid 85$ for a new one and never looked back. You will actually notice a performance increase. Because its firing the coil with more voltage than with a dead Alternator
